Eco-Shell Crushed Scallop Shell is a slow acting, long lasting fertilizer and soil improver, rich in lime and essential metal trace elements.

Eco-Shell Soil Improver is manufactured ifrom crushed scallop shells and is 100% natural and organic.

The distribution of particle size in Eco-Shell, provides fine particles that deliver lime directly to the soil, whilst the larger pieces improve drainage and release nutrients over an extended period of time.

Improving Your Soil By Adding Lime Eco shell acts as a slow release source of lime in just the same way as crushed limestone or chalk.
Why Lime ?
Rain steadily washes lime out of the soil making the land more acid. General fertilizers are of no help in correcting this condition - the only answer is to add lime - the oldest and still the best soil conditioner.
Lime Neutralises acid soils. Very few plants thrive in acid soil conditions.
Lime brings soils to life Acid soils tend to cause beneficial bacteria and earth worms to die out.
Lime breaks up heavy soils. Making the soil easier to work and better draining.
Lime is a plant food. Calcium, the main component of lime is an essential nutrient for all plants.
Lime makes other nutrients available. Lime acts on humus, setting free the elements needed for healthy plant growth>
Lime discourages pests Soil diseases like club root can be checked by liming. Soil pests such as slugs, leather jackets and wireworms hate it.

When to lime
The best time to add lime to the soil is after digging in the autumn. Spread Eco-Shell evenly over the surface, leaving the rain to carry it down into the soil.
Vegetabel Plot: Lime every three years, lime the plot intended for the Cabbage family. Do not lime ground which is intended for potatoes.
Flower Garden: Lime every 2 years on sandy soils and every three years on heavy soils and loam.
Manures, composts, fertilisers and seeds can safely be added to soil one month after liming.
