News Brief

SAVE A LIFE
DROP THE KNIFE

Full Story:

Specialist Aggregates are delighted to have been associated with the Gold Medal winning garden “Save a life, Drop the knife” designed and built by HMP Everthorpe at this year’s RHS Tatton Park Flower Show.

The garden depicts the story of knife crime, through perpetration, imprisonment and eventually “dropping the knife”. By means of thought provoking symbolism the journey starts with bleak concrete paving, graffiti strewn walls and flowers propped against a bollard in memory of a stab victim.

The black granite, reflective prison is entered through what appears to be a two dimensional metal detecting “tardis”, where knives are confiscated and set into a chilling threshold.

A bridge linking the past to the future remains unfinished, however, the destination is an area of harmonious lush planting set around a metallic sculpture of three blunted knives made in the prison workshop.

Our congratulations go to Glen Jackson and his team for not only achieving a gold medal but also the accolade of “best in show”.

Specialist Aggregates’ berry red marble was used to convey spilt blood at the start of the story, whilst in the final destination, a black pea gravel footpath flecked with red glitter provides a link to the past.
